The Ställbar lamp promotes user interaction as a conduit for creating emotion in bedroom lighting situations. The lamp works similarly in concept to venetian blinds- in that individual components control the overall light output. Each ‘bar’ in the lamp houses a row of LEDs. When aligned in a vertical configuration, a ‘bar’ will become illuminated. When horizontal, the LEDs will turn off. Collectively, the user controls the lamp by running their fingers up or down the bars to turn the light on or off. Intermediate levels of output can be achieved in lighting up only a few bars. In shifting the underlying interface from a switch to one’s fingers, the piece gains intrinsic value through use. In total, adjustable output via interaction, aims to make light a more customizable, personal piece of the bedroom.
